A shirt pull on Deric Eldridge’s back, a hip check here and there from teams, aggressiveness and intensity cover the field for the full 80 minutes of the game. This is soccer.
Both teams, MacArthur Brahmas and Roosevelt Riders matched up with intensity on the field but it would be the Riders in the end who would pull out a victory 2-0 over the Brahmas. After a game like the this one, the Riders, both fans and players, are revved up to defeat the Madison Mavericks on Friday, Feb. 11. The game is at 7 pm at Blossom Athletic Center’s west soccer field.
“He HIT him, I SAW it,” a MacArthur fan hollered down to the field, as the a MacArthur player tries to explain to the referee what “happened.”
The Brahmas were especially upset when the referee called “goal” after Roosevelt passed and crossed all the way through the Brahmas in the first four minutes of the game. However there was nothing the referee could call, Alan Garcia’s cross was totally clean (no fouls involved) and Eldridge’s shot into back post was onsides (not behind the last defender of the apposing team) and was definitely a great shot, so it was 1-0, Riders, in the first four minutes of the game.
About halfway into the first half, Dominik Small receives an indirect kick (the kick can be directly on goal and does not have to be touched by any other player for it to be a goal) for a foul against the Riders at the top corner of the 18 yard box. He took a step back looked around for options and took a shot. It was a goal for the Riders.
Throughout the second half, though no more goals were scored, there was still the fight from both teams whether defending or attacking to win the game, but in the end the game would be Roosevelt’s 2-0 victory.
The Roosevelt team and fans would like to wish Brian Pimental a speedy recovery from his injury during the game.
