Students Start Preparing for the Military Ball
Roosevelt is heading to Fort Sam Houston Feb 12 for the annual ROTC Military Ball. ROTC is working hard to prepare for the event. Students who
are on the military ball comity have numerous jobs that must be done to make the ball a success. Their jobs consist of working on the events, issuing uniforms and many other detailed tasks.
The military ball is a major event for all ROTC students. Every year students look forward to all the events that the ball has to offer. For seniors this event is better than prom and allows them to step in the light for a special moment that is specifically dedicated to them.
“All the seniors get recognized and we walk the saber line,” First Lieutenant Taylor Coakley, senior, said.
Because this event represents Roosevelt and the military every students must be dressed in the appropriate attire before they are given access to attend. Both male and female students have specifics that must be worn for the special event.
“All the guys have to wear their full uniforms and the women have to wear dresses,” Staff Sergeant Samantha Lea, sophomore, said.
Students are anxious for the ball to begin. They are looking forward to have fun and enjoying the night. Many have already obtained most of what they need. Especially for those who will be attending the ball for the first time, will be sure to get the best of the best.
“I’ve got everything done except for the ticket and getting my hair and nails done,” Corporal Jasmine Segovia, freshman, said.
This is also somewhat of a sad time for some students. For seniors this will be the last military ball they will attend. Soon the must say good bye and leave some friends behind. This will be a change for many underclassmen.
“It’s going to be kind of sad because my friends are leaving,” First Lieutenant Kevin Sebastian, junior, said.
This year is full of surprises for students. Every year there is always something new to expect and this year is no different. With all the effort students are putting in to make sure that every detail the ball is perfect will make the night one to remember.
