Facebook is the no. 1 social networking site and more popular than ever with students at Roosevelt High School. The well-known web site was launched in Feb. 2004 and now has 600 million users.
Facebook was founded by Mark Zuncherberg while attending school at Harvard University. It was originally exclusively for Harvard students to use, but due to copywrite issues raised by school officials, Zuncherberg decided to make his web site public for all to use.
“I get on Facebook daily. There is a lot of stuff to do, and it’s very addicting,” Steven Ochoa, freshman, said.
Within Facebook, you can chat on an instant messenger and post text on space on the web site known as walls. Facebook also offers a variety of interactive game to play giving users almost endless options.
“I get on Facebook every once in a while just to get a hold of people,” Ashley Hemani, MacArthur High School freshman, said.
Facebook can help you trace family members across the country or some lost friends. Sometimes even friends from your elementary school years.
“It’s definitely better than Myspace.com. It has more things to do,” Trevor Silrus, junior, said.
Myspace.com was the top social networking site for a good part of the first decade of the new millennium, but lost members due to computer viruses and scams. Facebook is the biggest social web site for 600 million reasons and it gives people something to keep their bored mind busy.
