Tired of the same thing all week? On Dec. 7, 2016 Roosevelt became the last school in the district to join a new lunch program that will provide new food in the cafeteria. Introducing two new serving lines called BYOL (build your own lunch) and Primo! Featuring ‘on-the-go’ hot entrees.

“We want the students to have more of a variety and maybe get more students to eat in the lunch lines. We are the last school in the district to start this program, all the other school already have it,” cafeteria manager, Mary Lou Garcia said.
Students received a letter detailing the new lines and new prices. Meal price for students is normally $2.50 but in the new lines it will change to $3.00 same thing with adults and guest changing from $3.25 to $3.75. This price change is only happening in those two new lines. Since the goal is to have better food quality, the district doesn’t pay for the food supplies needed but instead comes out of the lunch crew’s budget, making everything just a little bit more expensive.

“I personally love the new lunch line, I really enjoy the taste of the new items. So far, the best meal I’ve had was the buffalo chicken breaded sandwich. These new options are better than what we had before, it’s so much better in taste. I love it,” senior, Yulissa Saucedo said.
All cafeteria lines are available to students that qualify for the free and reduced price meal program. BYOL line consist of pasta, salad, sub, burrito and Asian bar. PRIMO! Includes, premium breaded chicken breast sandwiches, chicken breast boneless wings, calzones and personal-sized gourmet pizza.
