Sophomore Destiny McGrew knew that her homework was due the next day, but couldn’t help it. “I’ll just go on YouTube one more time,” she thought. “I’ll get one more taco.” Once she was done eating, she now knew that she needed to burn the calories off. “I think I’ll exercise now.”

She’s not alone. Procrastination is a big thing all around the world. Most students at Roosevelt high school said that, when they get home they don’t do their homework or study. They usually push it to the side, or wait till the class before to do it.
“I usually do my homework the class before,” McGrew said. “I just don’t do the work in the class and I end up having homework for the class to. And even when I do that I still get As and Bs”.
According to www.apa.org, between 80 to 90 percent of college students procrastinate on their school work. Most student make up excuses in their head to put off their assignment or project.
“I noticed the amount of pressure I feel this time around makes me want to less and cry sometimes,” senior Sebastian Garcia said. “But only sometimes.”
With procrastinating, some students find it more efficient and it rushes them to get more work done, but with other student say it doesn’t help at all.
“Procrastination doesn’t help me much, I feel like it hurts me,” freshman Nathan Puckett said, “because I can’t get it done, but it can help me because it teaches me a lesson.”
In a recent poll of more than 100 students, only 8 percent said they didn’t procrastinate.
Adults and students have tried to stop procrastinating but couldn’t do it.
“I would fall asleep if I tried to stop,” freshman Faith Mortenson said, “I would rather sleep and eat.”
When high school students go to college, the number of procrastinators in high school goes up to 88 percent, according to www.magoosh.com. So when students go to college they are more likely to procrastinate.
“Procrastination seems to work for me,” math teacher Brianne Kennedy, said. “And when I’m not doing my work I’m usually taking a nap.”
Procrastination can cause a lot of issues. For example for students, you could lose credit if you don’t get your work done. And for adults you could lose your job if you don’t have your work done.
But all of that could be prevented by organized your week or day. Counselor Atlee Hutchison says that if you have a planner you are able to organize yourself.
Hutchison said that if you are able to organize yourself, you are able to plan your time wisely.
With a planner you can see what you have for the whole week and you can see what you can do that day and what you can’t do. A planner will work, but you have to actually check the planner daily.
“It’s just a lot less stressful when you have everything planned out,” Hutchison said. “You’re not trying to rush at the last minute.”
