President Barack Obama was elected back in 2009, gaining the approval of most of the country. Two years, later his image with some people has changed while others still support him strongly.
Obama has been noted in history as the first African American president and has followed through with the promises he has made such as the repeal of the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Act, which currently prohibits military personel from openly disclosing their preference of the same gender, and passage of a Universal Health Care bill. However, his skeptics feel that he has not done enough or the opposite opinion that the things he is doing are wrong.
“I was hopeful, but now I’m a little disappointed. A majority of the troops were supposed to come back from Iraq (and Afghanistan) and that hasn’t happened yet,” Mia Wright, sophomore, said.
While some students at Roosevelt feel a little unhappy with the lack of change, others are more accepting of his policies.
“I think he’s doing a good job. He’s changing things little by little,” Aaron Delarosa, junior, said.
It’s understandable that Obama wasn’t given the opportunity to start fresh. It seems as though he has more chances for rebuilding and change than he does to create new concepts of government practice.
“I think he’s doing the best he can. He just wasn’t give the best situation to start with,” Mary Kate Hoffman, junior, said.
It’s safe to say that he’s working hard to fix all the problems former President George Bush left behind.
Overall, the reaction towards Obama’s time in office is positive with many drawbacks. There is still time for Obama to raise this country to greater heights, but it almost seems as though he’s only handling the smaller matters. All we have left to do is sit back and wait for the next move he makes, and then decide if we want to vote for him again or not in the future.
