Just in time for the Easter season, comes a new Bible based movie, Risen.
Shortly after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ (Cliff Curtis), a roman tribune named Clavius (Joseph Fiennes) finds out that the body of Jesus, after being placed in a tomb by a jewish group, is missing. Clavius goes on the hunt for the body of Christ and finds out something that changes his perception, forever.
Risen changes the way most biblical movies are put on screen. Director Kevin Reynolds puts a less dramatic tone on the movie then most biblical movies offer when adapted to the screen. Risen made $11.8 million opening weekend. Not many people were expecting much in this movie, mostly because of the way the Bible is perceived nowadays, and a lot of biblical story based movies are biblically inaccurate (ex. Noah; Russell Crowe) giving the assumption that most biblical based movies will be that way, but Risen is one of the most biblically accurate movies since Passion of the Christ (2004). Risen is a slow-paced movie, but gives an amazing perspective behind the eyes of a non believer, who finds the truth. The movie opens on Clavius walking toward a shack of sorts, meeting a man who gives him bread and other food. Grateful of this mans generosity, Clavius tells him his story, and tells him everything he went through to get to where he is now.
Risen got a 7.1/10 on IMDB making it one of the highest rated movies based on a Bible story in a very long time. If you enjoy movies based on historical events such as events from the Bible, go see this movie. You will be shocked on how amazing and how incredibly accurate this movie is.
Risen is now playing in all major theaters.
