On Jan. 29, 30 middle school students came to follow AVID students around and learn about their lives here in high school.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college readiness programmed designed to help students develop college skills. AVID is provided in more than 2,000 U.S high schools and emphasizes on growing writing, critical thinking and reading skills. AVID trains educators to use proven practices in order to prepare students for success in high school, college and a career.
“AVID helps me more with being organized since it’s all about being tight and smart,” junior America Martinez said.
The middle school students got to attend AP and PreAP classes to see the rigor our students experience here in high school as they get ready for college.
“AVID is a program where we work with kids to achieve their goals that they have set for their high school and college years, plus their career field,” program director Brock Stewart said.
The middle school students also got to enjoy a pizza lunch with the high school AVID students before returning to their home campuses.
