Coming Home: various alumni have returned to teach or lead here at our campus. This is the second part story in this multi-part series. This is the story of English Dean Heather Farmer.

Since 1978, when she first began high school here, English Dean Heather Farmer has only been off this campus for about three years.
The English IV teacher went to Camelot Elementary, Ed White Middle School before attending Roosevelt.

As a child, Farmer was a very talkative person. Ever since then, she describes herself as not having changed a lot while growing up.
“I talked all the time as a child, and now I get paid for talking,” she said.
What made Farmer want to become a teacher, was her inspiration from her loving teachers and ability to communicate with students.
“I like being part and helping new generations become great leaders,” she said.
After graduating, Farmer attended St. Mary’s University, later returning home to teach here at Roosevelt.
For the past 30 years, since Farmer has returned to give back to her community and teach here, she has found lots of special connections with the community, our campus and students.
“I love this community, the diversity and mixture of cultures that are here,” Farmer said.
Over the years, Farmer has not only worked with her old teachers, but has also been giving the privilege to learn new things from her students everyday.
“I learn every single day, it never stops, that’s a privilege of being a teacher,” she said.
For this reason, out of all connections Farmer has with Roosevelt, the one with her students is the one she appreciates the most.
“I think because I know the neighborhood, I can understand the students’ problems and what they’re going through,” Farmer said.
