Hair color is one of the many ways students try and express themselves.
Hair color is shown all around school campus. In the student handbook it states “Hair must be neat and clean. Unconventional hairstyles that are considered to be distracting and/or disruptive to the educational environment are prohibited. Students may wear natural hair colors only. For further clarification on what is unconventional, please consult with your student’s school administrators.”
As a school policy of having the non-natural hair color, faculty emphasize that students have only natural hair color, they say when students have “crazy colors” in their hair then they cause a distraction to the teacher and also they students around them.
“They want attention, depending on the way home life is, from hair color to dressing different,” math teacher Alejandro Rosas said.
A non-natural hair color can cause students to lose out on employment opportunities. Yet people still use it for expression, including political reasons. For example, someone people for the pride parade dyed their hair rainbow colors to show that they are proud of who they are, and they don’t care what anybody else has to say.
Some students do choose to change their haircolor, whether it is crazy colors or just highlights or streaks.
“Having colored hair makes me feel like my own person, and express on who I really am. Having a different color or dying my hair shows me that I am not like everyone else; I do my own things,” sophomore Jamie Mumphord, who has blonde highlights, said.

Hair color is ranged from five to 10 dollars per box, depending on what brand on dye you are planning on getting. If you are planning on getting your hair dyed professionally then it will cost you about 100$ a month, plus everything you need to keep up with your hair also. Dying your own hair cost less money and the color stays in much longer.
