Last year, teachers were told that our campus was made up with 26 different languages spoken. This means 26 different cultures and ethnicities from students roam the hallways of our school.
In order to make use of this diversity, English Teachers Cynthia Bass and Lynnette Perez came with the idea of an International Club.
However, the initiative to get everything started began with ideas from students Mirna Martinez and Francisca Jacinto Macel.
“I feel good learning different things about other countries and learning new traditions,” Macel said.
The club’s primary goal is to share languages and cultural experiences and for its members to understand and respect cultural differences.
The student led organization is driven by students mainly, with teachers having less to do with the club’s central focus.
A total of 12 students attended the foundation meeting last week. Nonetheless, in order for this organization to be recognized as an official club, it must first have a total of 20 members.
For anyone interested in participating or couldn’t attend the foundation meeting, they may see Bass (E308) or Perez (Portable 8) after school.
“I’m excited because with such cultural diversity, this is an opportunity to truly become part of a global society,” Bass said.
