Valerie Von Eisenhart, from Germany, has been in San Antonio since the beginning of the school year and will return in June. Despite being miles away from her family, Eisenhart is still enjoying her time in San Antonio.
“I don’t really miss my family because I know they are still back home.” Eisenhart said.
Making friends in a whole new country wasn’t hard for Eisenhart but is definitely not the way it used to back in Germany.
“I have made friends but its just not the same,” Eisenhart said.
Shanamon Boonsom, an exchange student from Thailand, has been in San Antonio since Aug. 22 of this year, and will return in July. Boonsom expressed her love for the city, like chicken tacos and the easier math, but is astonished by the cultural differences. In Thailand, it is expected of everyone not to kiss before marriage. While here in the United States, every corner you turn you can spot teens kissing their boyfriend or girlfriend. Despite the obvious differences, Boonsom hopes to return to San Antonio again to look more into the city.
Misty Kenney, the host of Boonsom, is originally from England. Kenney’s husband who is associated with the air force was ordered to San Antonio, where they have been for the last five months.
“Coming from a large multi cultural city like London, I have experienced many cultures,” Kenney said. “I am respectful of other cultures and am always interested to learn more about them.”
This encouraged Kenney to bring in out-of-country students, like Boonsom, into her home.
