No matter what size or variety school, lockers historically have been a must. Students are forced to either carry all their books and personal belongings in their arms or on their backs. Schools have lockers so students can keep their textbooks, homework, athletic equipment and supplies all safe in a locker.

Yet these days, most teachers have class sets of textbooks, and students have other options to get lockers through extracurricular activities.
There are a total of 2,949 students on campus this month. The school has 2,300 lockers but only about 100 of lockers have been issued and 80 of those lockers to freshmen.
“I don’t really think that having lockers is a good thing because we have so many students that break into them or damage them, and that is our stuff that is getting taken away from our personal locker,” freshman Mark Anthony Serna said.
But other students appreciate the storage space.
“I choose to get a locker just so I don’t have as much stuff to carry through out the day because I have so many heavy things,” junior Makayla Wells said.
Some students rely on extra curricular activities to provide their lockers. Dance has issued 130 lockers issued, ETA has 63 lockers issued. ROTC has about 50 issued to extra curricular groups and student leaders, athletics has 920 lockers issued, 280 of those lockers are for the football team alone. Band has 237 regular school lockers issued, plus they also get a instrument locker as well.
“I use my dance locker because it holds my dance materials,” sophomore dancer Jamie Mumphord said. “The fact that we have so many things it keeps me organized so I’m not as messy with me holding everything.”
“Since I do a lot of after school projects it allows me to store stuff in my locker and not lose it or get it damaged,” ETA junior Erick Sifeuntes said.
Even with 1300 lockers issued through these programs, still more than 1600 choose to carry all their things around each day, and many locker doors remain silent.
