The ban saw roars, students chatter about design, and the scissors slice through the tough fabric, all at DATA’s new Rocketry Club.
At Rocket Club students will build rockets, learn about the different components of rocketry and have fun.
“Students will learn how to make something from scratch and have it perform the way they want it to. It’s a lost art with students; they don’t know how to build things,” Emery Kelly, DATA rocket sponsor, said.
Even though the club is a DATA club function, students from other branches of the school can join too.
“Everyone should join [Rocket Club] because it’s a lot of fun and you can learn new things and meet new people you wouldn’t have otherwise,” Nina Hudson, freshman, said.
This is exactly what rocket club is for, students meeting other students, having the fun, and the excitement of building rockets and learning something new.
“I started Rocket Club because some of my students expressed interest in building rockets, so I started the club in hopes to teach even more students about rocketry and how to build real flyable rockets,” Kelly said.
“Going to club at one in the afternoon on a Sunday doesn’t bother me,” Hudson said. “It’s my time and I want to spend it doing something that I think is fun and important, not sitting around watching TV.”
