It’s really hard for Maria Flores to find a book she likes.
That’s why the sophomore decided to try out the book speed dating project put on by City Year on Wednesday, Feb. 11 in the library pit.
“I like the idea of speed dating and trying to find which book I like,” Flores said. “It’s pretty interesting, but the books that stood out to me most was the romance and science fiction books.”
Students had two minutes to get acquainted with the stack of books that were at their table, but when the time was up they got to move on to the next table to get acquainted with yet another stack of books that were ready to be read.

City Year Jessica Walsh got the idea of Book Speed Dating from one of the English classes who had done the same thing and decided to have this event for the whole school just before Valentine’s Day.
“The class that did Book Speed Dating done really well,” Walsh said. So one of my co-workers, Saraline Eagan told us about it and it inspired us.”
Students get the opportunity to meet new friends, get acquainted with some new books and enjoy Valentines Day Snacks.
